Although our trainers love being in the gym, whether training ourselves or others, we do like to do things OUT of the gym. It’s definitely important to have some other things besides lifting weights to decompress us, entertain us and inspire us! Read on to see what I asked the trainers and what they answered.
What are some of your hobbies to do when you are not pumping iron, inspiring health and wellness, or eating high-quality foods?
Outside of the gym I love going hiking! Being out in nature and trudging through the woods is something I have done since I was a little girl. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I also love to go shopping! Shoes, workout clothes, dresses, whatever I am shopping for, it’s always a good time. On rainy days, my favorite thing to do is stick my nose in a good book. I prefer murder mysteries.
I am a homebody so I love hanging out with my dogs, going for long walks, being outside, hiking. I hardly watch tv but if I do it’s usually a movie I’ve seen a hundred times (Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, and more girly stuff). I love to read books and drink tea, I make it a priority to read every day. I am not a super crafty person but I do enjoy crocheting or knitting. I’m a big online shopper because I can’t stand actually going shopping and dealing with crowds. (#grandmastatus)
When I’m not being super healthy (:P) you can find me engrossed in a new tv show. I love starting a new series that gets me thinking differently and critically. The West Wing is one of my favorite shows of all time. The Newsroom and Downton Abbey are close seconds. I love dry comedies to pass time, my favorites are The Office and Arrested Development. Other more serious series I have loved are Breaking Bad, Mad Men, True Detective, Homeland, Dexter, and House of Cards. It’s not the healthiest hobby but a good series feels good for my soul!
In my time away from the gym I enjoy cooking. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I can make some foods better than a professional. I also enjoy going out to eat so see what flavors and food combos other people are using. I also enjoy walking around the woods. I’m lucky enough to have a bunch of river trails and other parks near me so I try and take advantage of that whenever I have a couple hours.
When I am not playing the fitness game, I really like to watch TV. Yes, movies, shows, sports, I love TV. I think we all need a little TV in our life. I also like to play video games, wrestle and play with toys with my kids. They keep me young at heart!
One of my all time favorite things to do is watch sports. I know that comes as a shock to most of you but I am a sucker for a close game regardless of who is playing. With this activity comes the inevitable consumption of 1 or 2 beers, which also happens to be a guilty pleasure of mine. Nothing says fall like a good football game and a quality craft beer.
My go to since my early teen years has been the guitar. It’s always been a great outlet and challenge from day one. I don’t usually talk a ton about it, but it’s always been in my corner in good and bad times. It’s something that came before lifting and will go on long after training is done.
My hobbies are different based on the time of year. During the fall, I spend most of the time grilling, tailgating, and going on nature walks outside. In the winter, I like to spend more time reading since outside activities are harder to come by. When the warm weather rolls around, I like spending free time playing frisbee or football with friends.
I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about our trainers and what they enjoy doing in their free time!
