I love that State of Fitness is a safe haven for people. The community is unlike anywhere else. We genuinely enjoy being around each other, and everyone just wants to get better!

People who are willing and able to make health and fitness a priority in their life. The ones who make healthy choices, work out hard, push themselves but yet know how to enjoy life.

What do you do when you are not at the club?

I am a mom to tiny humans which means I’m busy, tired, and definitely want a nap at any given time. Haha! I enjoy trail walks/runs, eating delicious food, crocheting, reading, and watching Schitt’s Creek over and over.

Jessica is a 2011 graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology specializing in Exercise Science. She is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). She completed her MSU internship at State of Fitness in the Spring of 2011, gaining valuable experience in training clients.

Jessica grew up a long-distance runner, completing many road races ranging from 5k to marathons. Jessica played varsity soccer and volleyball throughout high school in the small town of Dryden. She has also completed triathlons and adventure races. When she arrived at MSU she joined the MSU Varsity Rowing Team and was introduced to strength training. When she interned in her senior year she was largely encompassed by what strength training can do for one’s body and started to train more rigorously. She believes through movement, heavy lifting, and proper nutrition that miracles can happen, physically and mentally.

Having a passion for an active and healthy lifestyle led Jessica to join the State of Fitness team! She loves the friendly atmosphere that greets her every morning and night. She hopes to pass on her love for fitness onto all of her clients.


I began training with Jessica in June of 2011. Over the last year, Jessica has instilled in me a new sense of belief in myself and helped me become stronger than ever before. Jessica is passionate and encouraging and knows just when to push you a little further. She is incredibly patient and brings a hands-on approach to her work; always asks how I am feeling- am I sore, tight, or injured? Jessica never hesitates to show me a stretch to help loosen up or help me perform a modified exercise if necessary.

Jessica has also worked with me to set various fitness goals over the past year. She helps you set attainable, incremental steps that set you up for success! Because of her commitment and confidence, I hope to soon be able to complete an unassisted chin-up for the first time in my life. I train with Jessica at 5:30am, and even at that hour she is energetic and has pep in her step – I always leave the gym after our training session with a smile on my face, knowing I can take on the day ahead!
