King of the Lifting Jungle: The Squat

The squat is one of the most fundamental human movement patterns and therefore, is one of Justin’s 7 Pillars of Strength. However, too many people perform it incorrectly. Then there are those who claim they’ve “never done a squat.” Well, we’ve got good news for you! If you’ve ever sat down in a chair, gotten into or out of a car, or sat down on the toilet then you’ve squatted ☺ It may have been unintentional but, nonetheless, you have squatted! If you’re looking to improve your squat, just follow these 6 easy steps:

squat mechanics

1. Set up with your feet shoulder width apart.
2. Pull your shoulders down and back and keep your chest tall and proud.
3. Drive your knees out.
4. Drop your hips down and back, think about lowering yourself in between in your legs
5. Keep your head in a neutral position, your weight in your heels, back flat, and drop until your hips are below your knees.
6. Stand back up.

And that’s it! Keep an eye on your inbox for more exercise demos, tricks, and tips!

Happy Squatting!
