Team State of Fitness: Race for the Cure!

I love April.  Not only does April usually mean the official start of spring (in a Michigan weather sense), but it always seems to ignite a hope within me.  There is nothing like feeling warm weather and seeing everything come back to life after winter, and I can’t help but feel energized by it.  It feels like a new start every year; time to kick-start your goals again, spring clean, start fresh, take advantage of the longer days, get moving!  For me, sunshine and warmth brings an instant good mood, and again, hope.

This feeling of hope goes hand-in-hand with the other reason I love April.  The last Sunday in April is the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure here in Lansing, and it is one of the best things I do all year.  If you are not familiar, the Susan G. Komen Foundation raises money to fund breast cancer research to find a cure, and it is one amazing organization in my opinion.

The Race for the Cure was the first 5k I ever participated in and it was the best introduction to event running that I could have asked for.  It is such an electrifying atmosphere!  It is an indescribable feeling to be surrounded by thousands of people all there to support one cause.  Survivors are being cheered on, battles being won, and the memory of loved ones being celebrated.   Unfortunately, chances are good that you know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, but even if you haven’t, this event will inspire you.

This year, we have formed Team State of Fitness to help raise money and recruit team members to represent us and those we love at the Race for a Cure.  We would be honored to have you join us on Sunday, April 29th, to celebrate those we have lost, those who have won their battle, and support those who continue to fight.

We hope to see you there!

Health and Happiness~
