Our Program
The state of Fitness has been Mid-Michigan’s leading personal training facility for over 13 years. SOF Owner, Justin Grinnell has over 20 years of Sports Performance Training experience and offers an innovative approach to training and building a solid athletic foundation while staying focused on each athlete’s individual goals. The SOF Sports Performance Academy program is based on consistent, continual coaching. Every workout is coached by one of our Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists, along with another coach in our State of Fitness University program, from start to finish. Our unique instruction in movement training, injury reduction, speed training, foot speed and agility, power development, strength training, and proper science-based conditioning. The workout progresses and the basics are mastered. Our goal is not only to improve the performance of our athletes, but also to teach them the skills to be confident, safe, and stand out in any weight room they enter. Our highly-trained staff will ensure that proper progression and technique are coached at all times for each athlete’s individual fitness level.

The State of Fitness Sports Performance Academy is for anyone looking to improve their overall fitness and performance, reduce the risk of injury, and acquire the fundamentals of strength and conditioning. Anyone ages 11-18 is able to enroll in our SPA program. This program is for pre-season, in-season, and off-season athletes as well as non-athletes. If you are just looking to learn how to work out properly and improve your health and fitness, the SPA program is for you!
Training also includes nutritional guidance and regeneration techniques to improve recovery. Each athlete will also be educated on how decisions off the field, between games, and at practices can improve their overall performance. Athletes work in small groups of 4 or fewer with at least 2 coaches to ensure training is done correctly and efficiently.

Trainers
Owner and Head Trainer, Justin Grinnell, is the developer of the State of Fitness Sports Performance Academy program. Justin’s experience with young athletes runs deep with over 20 years of experience and 34,000 hours of coaching.
Justin is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. While attending Michigan State University as an Exercise Science and Kinesiology student, Justin had the opportunity to work with hundreds of Division I athletes as an intern in the strength and conditioning department.
Justin has worked with hundreds of athletes from the youth level to the professional and Olympic athletes. Justin has learned the best training methods for athletes from the best coaches around the world.
The State of Fitness SPA program has helped over 100 athletes advance from the high school level to the colligate level. College coaches that have worked with some of Justin’s former SPA athletes say that the SOF athletes come to college more prepared than any of their incoming freshmen each and every year.
