I have been involved with sports for a very long time. As a former Division I athlete, and now strength coach/personal trainer I have been a part of and witnessed many athletes work hard to pave their way into competing at the junior high, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. What I have learned from my experiences is that no special tournaments or camps decide an athlete's fate. I talk to many parents being misled by coaches and camp organizers as they are told that their son or daughter needs to be at this tournament or camp to get exposure to college coaches. The truth is that a 5-day camp or premier tournament is going to make or break an athlete. The tournaments and camps are incredibly valuable, dont get me wrong. I have 2 kids that are starting to enjoy these opportunities. It becomes a balancing act of hard work, dedication, rest, recovery, and allowing a kid to be a kid. To bridge the gap, a proper strength & conditioning program is the key component to help young athletes stay resilient and fit. A well-rested athlete has a high level of fitness, and strength, and understands how to move fundamentally is an athlete that can stay strong, reduce the risk of injury, and avoid burnout. The Sports Performance Academy (SPA) at the State of Fitness started in 2010. The academy was created for middle school, high school, college, and even professional athletes who could have a place to train during the off-season, in-season, and pre-season to learn the fundamentals of strength & conditioning. The academy has now grown to young non-athletes as well who are looking to gain athletic improvements and confidence. Since the academy began, there has been an enormous amount of success with the athletes. State of Fitness has produced several league and state champions, and many of our athletes are now competing at the collegiate and professional levels. There are big plans for the SPA program this summer. Here are 3 reasons why your kids should join our program. A major driving force to start a strength & conditioning program is injury prevention. By building muscle, and strength, and improve movement quality, and cardiovascular endurance, athletes can help prevent injuries while playing their sport. At State of Fitness, we use scientific knowledge to carefully design our programs. We not only focus on building strength/power, but we also focus a lot on injury prevention. In every workout, our athletes go through a dynamic warm-up, followed by 3 or 4 corrective exercises that help prevent any injuries that can occur on and off the playing field. To add to our effective programming, We have committed to learn from the best strength coaches in the world and see what works and what doesn’t for young athletes. We carefully design our programs and do not fit a square peg in a round hole by having our athletes perform an exercise that has more risk than reward. Safety, proper program design, and pristine technique are the cornerstones of our training philosophy. 2.) Mastering The Fundamentals of Strength & Conditioning As an athlete, you always want to surround yourself with people who are going to lift you higher. As I previously mentioned, State of Fitness has produced a lot of successful athletes who now compete at the collegiate and professional level. Many of those collegiate athletes come back and spend their summers training with us at State of Fitness. This creates a very competitive and motivating environment for any athlete. At State of Fitness, your kids will not only be more motivated, but they can also learn from athletes who are competing at the highest levels in their sport. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP AND LEARN MORE! 1.) INJURY PREVENTION
Along with reducing the risk of injury for our athletes, we strongly emphasize improving their overall strength, fitness, and movement quality. We coach our athletes on the fundamentals of strength & conditioning while monitoring their continued progress by tracking their workouts. This allows us to help them understand how to properly progress their weightlifting, jumping/explosive power, speed, and throwing power from start to finish. We treat each athlete at their starting point and progress them as an individual.
One thing we pride ourselves on is when our young athletes enter another weight room. We want to help build their proficiency and confidence in the weight room. When our athletes enter their high school weight room, we want them to feel like they can be leaders. We want their coaches and peers to give them alkaloids to have the skills to learn the program and help others. One of our biggest compliments has been from collegiate strength & conditioning coaches. We have had several athletes thank us for helping them become so prepared in the weight room. Their college coaches would pay them compliments for being such a responsible and dedicated athlete when it comes to strength & conditioning.
